Will I see the magnets through my lens?
No. We put the magnets in the left and right peripheral field of the left and right lens—often referred to as your “blind spot.” Generally speaking, the magnets will not interfere with your primary field of vision or visual acuity. The magnets, (a mere 2mm each) are strategically created to be the same size and distance as the nosepad arm; most people do not see the nosepad arm of the eyewear. Even in instances in which lens wearers notice the magnets, the eyes adjust quickly and tend to overlook them—almost always within three weeks, and quite frequently in as little as a few days to one week.
How big are the magnets?
Each magnet is about 2 mm, tiny by any meaure. Think of the most advanced ultra-small computer chips for a comparison—about the thickness of the “white part” of your fingernail.
How long does it take to make Chemistrie Sunlenses?
This depends. If your eyecare professional has an in-house lab with the right equipment, making Chemistrie Sunlenses takes almost no longer than your “traditional” pair of glasses—generally under one hour. If you are ordering new eyeglasses through your optometrist, (meaning your glasses go “on order”) Chemistrie Sunlenses ADD NO EXTRA TIME to your optical order. If you are “converting” your existing eyeglasses into Chemistrie Sunlenses, it may take up to a week to complete the modification, including shipping. (So if you choose to “retrofit” your lenses, you’ll need a backup pair of glasses on hand.)
I love my current frames and lenses. Can they be made into Chemistrie Sunlenses?
Of course! Remember: If you are “converting” your existing eyeglasses into Chemistrie Sunlenses, it may take up to a week to complete the modification, including shipping. (So if you choose to “retrofit” your lenses, you’ll need a backup pair of glasses on hand.)
Can my eyeglasses be damaged in this process?
As master craftsmen, we recognize and have a special appreciation for the high quality eyewear we process. Included in the price of the product is insurance of over nine-hundred dollars—suitable for replacing your original pair should the rare problem occur. If your order requires more insurance than this, please contact us. We have never had to use this insurance.
How is this design different than prior magnetic clip designs or traditional clip on sunglasses?
This design takes into consideration the many flaws of old clip-on designs and features—bulky choices, lack of variety of styles and colors, bending of clips or clip frames, loss of attachment strength over time, readjustment visits to the optician, awkward appearance, etc. Chemistrie Sunlenses were invented by an optician with 15 years of experience. By matching the curvature of the click on sunlenses to the curvature of the prescription lenses, Chemistrie Sunlenses click seamlessly over top of your existing LENSES, not your frames. Each of our products is a “matched fit” to your personal prescription, rather than mass-produced.
Can I get this product from my optometrist?
Ask your eye doctor. If no one in your area carries the product, your eye doctor can have Chemistrie Sunlenses made by our facility in Pennsylvania. If you prefer to work with your family optometrist, please refer him or her to our website, or provide us their information so we can assist. We can also let you know, based on your location, where the closest local providers are located. The point is, if you want them, just let us know!
What colors do they come in?
The Bridge (the titanium piece that “bridges” the nose) is available in Bronze, Gold, and Gunmetal. The Magnets are available in Gold, Silver and Gunmetal. The Sunlenses are available in 8 distinct colors of Polarized and 8 Polarized Mirror Anti Reflective.
